Mark Biedlingmaier

During a 43-year career with the U.S. Department of State, Mark served as Charge d'affaires at Embassy Luxembourg, Brazzaville (Congo), and Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo), Chief of Staff at Embassy Baghdad, and deputy Senior Civil Representative at NATO base Camp Marmal in Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan.

His prior assignments include Minister-Counselor Management assignments in Mexico City, Bangui (Central African Republic), Luanda (Angola), Abuja (Nigeria), and in Washington, as director of the Office of International Conferences, division director for the Middle East region in the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO), and Assignments Officer in the Bureau of Human Resources. In 2007-2008, Mark served as an Eagleburger Fellow on detail to Dupont-Nemours in the office of the Vice President for Global Affairs.

A native of Easton, Pennsylvania, he is a graduate of the Lundelska College in Uppsala, Sweden, and holds a Master of Arts degree in History/International Affairs from the University of Scranton. Mark served as a Peace Corps Volunteer with the Tuberculosis/Leprosy Control program in Osan, South Korea, and has been an active volunteer mentor to the Lee Iacocca Institute "Global Village" project at Lehigh University, advisor to the philanthropic "Dolphin Foundation" which coaches under-served youth in the New York City area, and with various Catholic and Faith-based organizations. His foreign languages include French, Spanish, and conversational Portuguese, Swedish, and Korean. He is a recipient of the Secretary General's NATO Civilian Service Medal, Department of State Expeditionary Service Award, and numerous Superior and Meritorious Honor Awards.
