Lloyd Freeman
Lloyd Freeman joined the Department of State as an FSO in 2015 and served his first tour in Kuwait as the human rights officer. He served his second tour in the consular section in Kabul, Afghanistan (2017-2019) and his third tour in Berlin, Germany (2019-2021) where he also worked as a consular officer. He recently served as the Deputy Political-Military Affairs Counselor at Embassy Riyadh from 2021 to 2024. Lloyd currently serves as a political-military affairs officer in the office of Nuclear Energy Safety and Security in the bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation. Before joining the State Department Lloyd served as Marine Infantry officer for 22 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2014.
As a Marine officer Lloyd served in leadership positions at the company and battalion levels completing three combat tours, two in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. Lloyd also acquired the collateral qualification as a Foreign Area officer and served as the Marine attaché to Turkey (2008-2011). During his final tour he worked as the Deputy Executive Assistant to the Director of Expeditionary Warfare on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations. He received his BA from Union University, TN in 1990 and his MA from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA in 2004. He is married and has two sons.
